Parkesdale Farms Market and Strawberry Shortcake

One of my favorite seasons is upon us here in Florida and that is strawberry season! The supermarkets start having sales on quarts of strawberries and we get to have fresh strawberries for a snack, to dip in chocolate, and with waffles!

One of our family traditions during this season is to go strawberry picking at farms that allow the public to go and pick their own strawberries for only $.50 cents a quart and a bit more for organic farms. We love to pick at the very least 8 –12 quarts to freeze some, eat some fresh, and to make strawberry sauce or smoothies with! I haven’t yet ventured to try making my own jam. I may try that this year though.

This is also the season where we also start seeing lots of roadside farm stands advertising flats and half-flats of strawberries for sale as we drive around town. I got to visit Parkesdale Farms Market for the first time last week. One of my friends has boasted about them and their strawberry shortcakes many times and have been meaning to go for so long and just haven’t made it there. Well, we finally did and my kids and I got in line and got a strawberry shortcake to share. The line was surprisingly long at 11:30 pm during the weekday. I just wasn’t expecting that many people to be there. Anyway, I was surprised at how fast the line moved and we ordered and got our strawberry shortcake in no time!

I’m sorry I didn’t get to take a picture of our strawberry shortcake. I had my 2 kids clamoring for it so I completely forgot to stop and get out my camera. I was too busy trying to keep my almost 2 yr old from screaming at her sister asking for more strawberries to remember to take a picture of my kids thoroughly enjoying the late morning treat.

I can’t wait to go back with my whole family to enjoy some more shortcake and buy some more fresh produce and check out their honey section! My daughter already made her request that she wants ice cream on her shortcake next time. 🙂

If you are ever in the Tampa Bay area on vacation or business, you must pay a visit to Parkesdale Farms Market!
